Samyoung Machinery announced that it successfully hosted the “BITZER Compressor Technical Seminar” on November 27 at Take Hotel in Gwangmyeong, attended by approximately 130 industry professionals.
In his opening remarks, Deokho Yoo, CEO of Samyoung Machinery, stated:
“This seminar was organized around the broad theme of efficient energy use and energy savings. We prepared presentations covering not only the basic operating principles of BITZER compressors, but also newly launched compressors and drives introduced this year, as well as cascade refrigeration systems released in the second half of the year.”
He added:
“Due to the sharp rise in international fuel prices, Korea Electric Power Corporation accumulated losses totaling KRW 41 trillion from 2021 to 2024, while its debt reached KRW 203 trillion as of the first half of this year. As a result, industrial electricity rates were increased by an average of 9.7% on October 24.”
He further noted:
“Although industrial electricity users account for only 1.72% of total customers, they consume 53.2% of the country’s total electricity usage.”
Continuing his remarks, Yoo explained:
“With this increase in industrial electricity rates, large corporations are expected to bear an additional annual electricity cost burden of approximately KRW 1.17 trillion. Given KEPCO’s continuously rising debt, further electricity rate increases appear increasingly inevitable.”
He emphasized:
“We need to expand the distribution of products based on BITZER’s high-efficiency energy solutions in order to reduce the burden caused by rising electricity costs.”
He concluded:
“I hope this seminar will provide all participating customers with valuable insights and new business concepts.”
Seminar Program
The BITZER Compressor Technical Seminar was conducted in the following order:
- Principles of BITZER Compressors
- CM-RC-02 & VARIPACK
- Equipment Demonstration
- Introduction to Cascade Refrigeration Systems
- Introduction to BITZER Software Programs
Introduction of BITZER’s Major Products
Jan Grubel from BITZER Germany introduced the BITZER Group and the key features of its major products, while Manager Dojin Kim provided interpretation.
As of 2023, BITZER recorded sales of €1 billion (approximately KRW 1.4 trillion), invested €61 million (approximately KRW 85 billion) in R&D, employed around 4,320 staff members, and operated sales offices and distribution networks in 75 countries. The company also operates manufacturing facilities in 21 countries.
BITZER’s primary business sectors include:
Refrigeration Applications
- Food retail (supermarkets, hypermarkets, convenience stores)
- Cold storage and refrigerated logistics
- Food processing (freezing, refrigeration, conditioning)
- Specialized refrigeration (filling stations, hospitals, ice rinks, breweries)
- HoReCa (Hotels, Restaurants, Catering)
HVAC, Ventilation, and Heat Pump Applications
- Air conditioning and ventilation for indoor spaces such as office buildings, shopping centers, and hotels
- Active and passive heat recovery systems
- Process cooling (data center cooling, machine tools, medical equipment)
- Heat pumps for heating and hot water generation
- Air conditioning and refrigeration systems for ships

The BITZER Group operates several affiliated companies, including AWA, BITZER Electronics, B POWER, ElectraTherm, OJ Electronics, VaCom Technologies, and WURM.
BITZER’s product portfolio includes:
- Semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors
- Reciprocating compressors
- Condensing units
- Screw compressors
- Ammonia compressor packs
- Scroll compressors
- Compressors for mobile applications
- Heat exchangers and pressure vessels
One of BITZER’s flagship products, the ECOLINE reciprocating compressor series, is designed to meet the demands of modern refrigeration systems by offering:
- Wide application flexibility
- Easy installation in both single and parallel operation systems
- Safe and reliable system operation options
- Highly flexible and efficient capacity-control functions
The IQ MODULE can be selected either as a compressor operation module or as a protection module (SE-B). It is also designed with space for additional expansion modules.
Additional functions can easily be added during:
- Compressor production
- OEM manufacturing
- On-site installation
This allows the system to be configured in multiple ways according to different application requirements.
BITZER provides three types of expansion boards:
- Advanced CM-IO-A
- Premium CM-IO-B
- Condensing Unit CM-IO-C
Cascade Refrigeration Systems Deliver Excellent Ultra-Low Temperature Performance
Dongryeol Park, Technical Advisor at Samyoung Machinery, introduced the company’s cascade condensing unit system (cascade refrigeration system).
A cascade refrigeration system is a high-efficiency cooling system consisting of two independent refrigeration cycles.
The system can be applied across various industrial sectors, including:
- Spiral freezers
- Tunnel freezers
- Research laboratories
- Semiconductor facilities
- Medical facilities
Its major advantages include high energy-saving performance, operational stability, and superior performance in ultra-low-temperature environments.
The most commonly used refrigerant combinations include:
- R717 (NH₃) + R744 (CO₂)
- R404A + R23 or R508B
- R404A + R410A
The system can be designed flexibly according to application requirements and refrigerant characteristics.
Technical Advisor Park stated:
“Compared to systems with the same cooling capacity, Samyoung’s cascade refrigeration systems reduce power consumption and operating current while increasing the coefficient of performance (COP). In addition, smaller unit coolers can be used relative to equipment horsepower (HP).”
He added:
“The system also reduces overall installation costs and required installation space while enabling precise PLC-based control.”
According to Samyoung, its cascade refrigeration systems demonstrated the following performance improvements compared to competing two-stage screw refrigeration systems:
- 34.9% reduction in power consumption
- 44% reduction in operating current
- 55.8% increase in COP
Actual application cases include:
- Spiral freezers at a dumpling factory in Hwaseong
- Freezing-time test systems at a chicken processing factory in Gimhae
- Shrimp and seaweed spore freezing facilities
In his closing remarks, Deokho Yoo stated:
“We hope today’s presentations provided our customers with a new business paradigm and contributed to the advancement of Korea’s refrigeration and HVAC industry.”
He concluded:
“All employees of Samyoung Machinery will continue listening carefully to our customers’ voices and strive to grow together with them.”
